Lions grow from chubbertub cubs into great, majestic beasts. They’re fiercely protective of their territory and their pride (as in group), and they are very powerful creatures. They’re very symbolic for courage, leadership, and self-confidence, which you would probably gather from a very bulky creature that was once cute, cuddly, and a little awkward when it was small. And that’s no different from Neville. He encompasses a nice image to the Gryffindor name, and for some reason - for his Patronus to be a lion would be just suitable. The quote “A lion paces in every human heart. “ would be appropriate to slip in here, because of all people, this fits Neville.
